NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service (PCS)
We provide the NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service (PCS), offering free oral contraception and emergency contraception directly at our pharmacy in Prestbury, without the need for a GP appointment first. Launched in 2023 and expanded nationwide, this service enhances access and convenience for all eligible patients.
What We Offer
Our trained pharmacists supply combined or progestogen-only contraceptive pills for new users, restarts, or ongoing needs (up to 12 months). We also deliver free oral emergency contraception as a single dose following unprotected sex or method failure, via a quick Patient Group Direction (PGD) consultation. Everything is free with no prescription charges.
How to Access
Simply visit us or self-refer — no GP referral needed. We will conduct a confidential consultation (in-person or remote), checking blood pressure, BMI, and medical history to confirm suitability. You can get signposted here from your GP, sexual health services, or NHS 111.
Eligibility
Suitable for individuals up to age 49–54 (pill-dependent) needing oral contraception, or anyone requiring emergency options post-unprotected sex. Excludes those under 16 without capacity, clinically unsuitable cases, or advance emergency supplies per national guidelines.
